Live from Ras Al Khaimah

Sitting here in Ras Al Khaimah ( a northern emirate of the United Arab Emirates), with a weekend of being in the house stretched out luxuriously before me. I started contemplating my circumstances. Our circumstances. I know this situation seems untenable. I know some of us have lost a loved one or friend. Some are scared. Others sick. A few, both. Maybe, more than a few, many even.

But.

The way I see my friends loving on each other and their families is making me warm. I can see the amber glow of coziness coming from your hearth and hearts. There has been an unbelievable soundtrack to this experience. I am keenly aware we are in the defining moment of many of our lives. Most wonderful and strangely, being DJ’d by hip-hop greats and their second and third generation of musical children. Hilarity of every sort happening, from the sublime to the dark. It seems we are at and in a film simultaneously. Watching in awe, disbelief, and a bit of trepidation wondering when we are up next. Each awaiting our scene in this unbelievable and entirely true real-life cinematic experience.

Jeering from our seats at the great and terrible as they seemingly make all the wrong decisions while the fate of many (us) hangs in the balance. Cheering the wisdom of those who protect their land and people with thoughtfulness and nerve.

Pray for them. Send them energy. Beseech your ancestors and the angels to cover you and your family, as I do the same. Burn sage, light a candle, get on your knees, cry out and commune. Now, is the time. So that no matter whose leadership you are under, your family will remain blessed and well. God willing.

Can you imagine being a leader at this moment? The lens of history will be clear, detailed, and the hindsight will be 20/20.

Sensory overload. The news. Our phones. Social media. Email. Forwards. Short videos. Challenges. Concerts. Yet, it can all be muted in the confines of family and familiar things if you are blessed. I feel very strongly that all of Creation is calling to us to do…nothing. To be still. To dwell in our secret places with only the closest and most familiar. To look inward and ask ourselves some hard questions. To be honest with ourselves. To judge our own lives.

To love. To give. To unclutter. To organize. To sing. To pray. To meditate. To clean. To release. To choose better. Different. More. To stir up our greatness. To retire from playing god. If you don’t capitalize the g, you are out of your lane.

What is this time calling you to? This is an unfolding. We are experiencing a great change and if you aren’t careful, when this time passes - we all know, it came to pass; you may make the mistake of “going back to normal”. Don’t go back. Go forward.

Spend more time at home. Spend more time talking to your children. Spend time snuggling and recognize that living six feet from everything and everyone you love is not your best life. I’m not going back and forth with you about it either. Getting in close is what we need more of.

We need a healed Earth. This is our home and she is crying out to us to let her have a moment. She doesn’t want to hurt her children. She will though. She will put us out of the house if we can’t abide by her rules. She has more tricks than we know. She was young and hot once. Spewing lava everywhere, growing mountains and seas, nurturing life in every depth and at unreachable heights. Forests teeming with life from floor to canopy, caves filled with stalagmites and hidden rivers with blind fish, lions, apes, and wolves roaming and ruling their respective kingdoms.

Then, there’s us. The homo sapiens. I won’t start, because then we’ll be here all day. We could do and be so much better. Right now, at this very moment, we have the chance to reset. To be better. To do better. To save our lives. To save the lives of our children. To save our countries. To save our planet.

So, while you stay home, plug into the spirit. Open your heart. Get ready. Get set.  It is about to be that time. You’ll know when it arrives. If you are listening.
