The Collective

This is a collective BBT for the term GIRL BOSS. I hate it with a passion.

The idea that my gender needs to be identified when referring to the fact that I am a boss infuriates me. Why is it automatically assumed that if you’re a boss you are a man? We don't walk around calling guys Boy Bosses. Why can't women be bosses, the end, no girl? Do I run this shit? Do I handle my business? Do I work hard? Have I earned the title? Then give me my status without identifying my gender first. It's as though adding the word girl will help to mansplain my behavior later.

"Oh she's a girl boss, you know how they are".

And then, to add further insult, you identify me as a girl and not a woman. Like I don’t adult. Like adulting isn’t hard. I don’t understand.

Let's not get it twisted, women and girls can be bosses. There are kids running whole companies at the same age I was playing hide and go seek. That still doesn't mean they need their gender called out.

Please tell me I'm not the only one out here who cringes when I see girl boss written on a cute mug or splashed across a meme like a badge of honor. I like cute shit too but every time I see it I just want to scream TAKE THAT SHIT DOWN.
